Our Saturday Day Trip to Duchman Family Winery

Our Saturday Day Trip to Duchman Family Winery

One of my favorite things about living in Austin is that while there is never a shortage of things to do within the city limits, there are an abundance of things to do just outside the city that make you feel as if you’ve traveled many miles to get there. At the beginning of November, we decided to take a quick day trip over to Duchman Family Winery in Driftwood, TX, as Zachary and I are both big fans of wineries with beautiful scenery and delicious wines. This winery did indeed check both of those boxes, and the weather on the day we went could not have been better; a win-win if you ask me.

Given that it was an unseasonably warm day in November (although this is not unusual for a TX fall, if I remember correctly this weekend possessed what we call “fake fall” temperatures), we chose to sip on some white wines for the afternoon and sit outside at one of their many picnic tables available for people to stay and enjoy the wine and scenery. We tried both the “Viognier” and the “Roussanne”, however the “Roussanne” was a standout for us and ended up being our favorite of the day. We enjoyed both of these wines with some snacks from their kitchen and bought a few bottles to take home as well. I am no wine expert so I will spare you all the rigor of having to read through my amateur description of the “Roussanne”; all I remember is it was delicious (refreshing, not too sweet, not too dry) and we both enjoyed it enough to want to drink it on other occasions.

We had such a lovely afternoon at this winery and inspired by the landscape of the property and the architecture therein, truly felt like we were transported to the Tuscan countryside for a few blissful hours. After a lovely few hours of sipping wine under the sun, we made our way to the Salt Lick for dinner, an Austin staple, and then back home for the evening. Though it is about a 45-minute drive outside of Austin, the juice is definitely worth the squeeze if you’ve got a free Saturday in my opinion. We will definitely be back!
