Our Nantucket Wedding!
I am so excited to finally share our wedding day with all of you! It was absolutely the most beautiful day at the beginning of May, and although we were worried about the weather since Nantucket in spring is notoriously unpredictable, it could not have been a more perfect early spring day for us. It was truly the best day of our lives, seeing all of our families and friends in the same place and making the best memoires with everyone there. As a warning there are going to be an exorbitant number of photos in this post, but I promise they are so worth it.
Our invitations were done by a local Austin graphic design and stationery studio, The Inviting Pear, and they could not have been better to work with. I came to them with a Pinterest board of wedding invitations that I liked and had saved throughout our engagement and had a general idea of what I wanted the invitation suite to look like, but really nothing more than that. The most important thing that I wanted was a monogram of Zachary and I’s names that we could have as the cornerstone of the wedding design, and to be able to incorporate in various bits of decor throughout the wedding. They worked with us completely virtually to design the whole suite, since we were designing these invitations during the height of the COVID pandemic and allowed us to even purchase the rights to the monogram so that we could use it on other decor for the wedding. They were so collaborative and receptive to every idea we threw at them. I honestly cannot recommend them more highly and will 100% be using them again for future family announcements!
The ring on the left was my grandmother’s amethyst ring and was gifted to me by my mom as my something old. She was so special to me and passed a few years before our wedding, but she was felt so strongly there in spirit that day and I loved being able to honor her by wearing this beautiful ring. The bracelet on the right was lent to me by my mom as my something borrowed and was the bracelet that she wore on her wedding day. It meant so much to me to be able to wear this and carry on the tradition for my wedding day. And in the center is Zachary and I’s ring set from Benold’s Jewelers in Austin. It was very important to us to be able to support both Austin and Nantucket local businesses even though we were getting married in Nantucket, and I love the way each little detail we picked out came together seamlessly.
Zachary was born and raised in Texas, so including little nods to his native state on our wedding day was a must! He and all of his groomsmen wore black cowboy boots, and his brother gifted him and each of the groomsmen these Texas cufflinks for their shirts. I was admittedly very proud of how well all of these little details came together!
Our wedding florist, Fleurish Nantucket, did an absolutely incredible job with our flowers and decor for the wedding day. Some of our staple flowers and greenery included Ranunculus, Blue Thistle, Eucalyptus, Lilies, White Anemone, Blue Delphinium, White Roses, Blue Tweedia, and Italian Ruscus. I mean look how adorable these boutonnieres are that she designed for the groomsmen and our dads!
One of the other traditions that we wanted to keep alive was the placing of the lazo on the bride and groom after the vows are read. This tradition was new to me as I grew up in Pennsylvania and had never seen this done at a wedding before. In Hispanic culture (and some other cultures as I’ve recently learned), the placing of the lazo in a Catholic ceremony is meant to symbolize the union of a bride and groom becoming one body in marriage. We really loved this symbolism and wanted to carry this on also as an homage to Zachary’s heritage and our new life together as husband and wife. My mother and father-in-law picked out this beautiful white crystal lazo for us to use during the ceremony, and we still have it displayed in our home today right next to our wedding guest book.
Right after our ceremony, we walked over to the Compass Rose in downtown Nantucket to take some photos with our bridal party. Little did we know, shortly after we started taking photos, a ferry had just dropped off a ship full of passengers at Straight Wharf coming to Nantucket for the weekend. Within minutes, there was a parade of passengers driving past our photo-taking opportunity with a bevy of cheers and car honks. One very kind stranger even spontaneously gifted us a bottle of champagne right after this photo was taken! It was such a sweet and serendipitous moment that I will never forget.
Our beautiful cake was done by 45 Surfside, our favorite bakery on Nantucket. We incorporated lots of beachy details as a nod to Nantucket, as well as some edible flowers that were meant to mirror some of the flowers in my bouquet. Once of my favorite details of the cake however is the pearlescent lining under each layer of the cake. Finally for a cake topper, we decided to use our wedding monogram that The Inviting Pear designed for us and place it on an acrylic (we found a designer on Etsy to do this). It was such a sweet and personal detail that we still keep in our kitchen today! We also found a personalized knife and cake server set on Etsy that we absolutely love and still use for special occasions.
We originally had planned for my two cousins and my uncle to do some readings during our ceremony, however due to the COVID restrictions that were still in place at the church where we got married, no one outside of the priest and Zachary and I were allowed up on the altar during the ceremony. Instead, we had them each take turns reading a prayer before dinner was served at our reception. It was a really nice way to still include some more family in the wedding even with some of the COVID restrictions in place.
Towards the end of the evening, Zachary and I slipped away to take some pictures on the docks right outside the White Elephant Brant Point Grill, and at this point in the evening, it had gotten so chilly and windy. I was so grateful to have this shawl I found on Etsy, it was subtle and perfect for a chilly spring night. I also gifted a silver version of it to each of my bridesmaids to wear over their shoulders as the night went on, and they were equally as grateful not knowing quite how the temperature can change on Nantucket in a heartbeat!
After the most epic dance party ever (major shoutout to Scott at Cape Tunes for keeping our guests on the dance floor all night long and honoring every do and don’t play request that evening), we and the remainder of our guests that were still up to it all gathered inside the Brant Point Grill bar and library just off the dining room for some more merriment. Towards the end of the evening, our photographer captured this awesome moment in time just as the party was winding down, and I love to look at this photo and just reminisce about how much fun we had that day. We felt so lucky to have spent the whole day with family and friends who had traveled far and wide to come celebrate our marriage with us!
